Introduction

Learning a foreign language is surely a challenge, but not an impossible quest because people have done before. You and I have to take up this challenge and make sure that we make an interesting experience out of it.

A foreign language is a required component of the programme you have decided to undertake and should remain a tool in your future endeavours. In other words, learn this language not only on a short term basis to get your bachelor’s degree and bury it as soon as you will have left this institution, but rather get this precious tool for international careers you might embrace. That is the long term basis.

As such, the material has been designed to take you from the very basics of general French using the “two steps forward, one step back” principle to help you revise and master the basic contents of the course.  The material is made in such a way that it allows for direct contact with the language and is anchored on the four skills, i.e., listening comprehension, reading comprehension, speaking and writing. Any living language is based on these skills.

Many exercises have been prepared within our course based upon those skills; it is up to you to find many other exercises on the Internet, from friends and books that you might come across.

Steady work and regular consultations with me or other people will undoubtedly make your foreign language learning easier and more enjoyable. You will find important learning material based on references as provided for in the appendix; regularly refer to it.

Wishing you good luck,

K. Mumba.
